As all Search and Rescue Teams, we train very hard for the eventuality of a live call-out. But along with a live call-out always brings heart-ache and distress for not only the missing person, but also their families and friends whom are left behind. Some searches are remembered more than others by Team Members; some searches are remembered vividly as though you are still there actively looking for the missing person. This is due to a wide range of factors, such as; the Team Members’ first search, an event that occurred during the search, media influence, the terrain or weather conditions, or simply wishing you wanted to have searched more, even when the Police had stood the Team down. “I, personally, remember a search in 2005. I can re-call the weather conditions, the different Teams, the amount of paperwork, where each Team was and the search areas we had been tasked to complete. Unfortunately, the lady whom we were searching for was found days later, outside of the search areas, in the River Mersey by the Ferry Tavern Inn. She was found deceased by a member of the public who was simply walking their dog. I have the peace of mind and the reassurance that she is now resting in peace, but often I do wonder if there was anything more we could have done.” J. McClure, Search Manager. Our thoughts and prayers go to loved ones left behind who often wait anxiously for hours or days with little news as to their whereabouts. |
