The CLSAR Medical Support Team was formed during the summer of 2006. This was following a number of incidents which happened, that needed slightly more expertise and experience than that offered by basic first aid.

The Medical Support Team comprises of a small group of dedicated Health Care Professionals from various medical backgrounds, these include a General Practitioner, a number of Nurses and Anaesthetic Practitioners all with extensive pre hospital care experience.

The “Medics In Black” as they are known to the team due to their distinctive uniform, support and care for team members , the missing person (misper) and our colleagues from the emergency services (Police , Fire & Rescue etc..) during training and search & rescue incidents.

The medics are all trained search technicians and work directly alongside fellow team members, we all muck in together to try and locate, rescue and care for the misper.

The Medical Support Team also access the technical rescue training offered by our technical steep access / water rescue instructor, so that in any situation we can provide care wherever the misper is located.

The team can provide a wide and extensive range of immediate aid, trauma and life support interventions.

As well as medical support, the Health Care Professionals use their experience and knowledge to provide regular casualty care training sessions for fellow team members in order to facilitate a whole team approach to the care of the injured person.

One of our most important roles within the team is to facilitate post critical incident debriefing following traumatic incidents, this is done in a supportive caring environment to allow colleagues to work through their feelings and continue their vital search and rescue work.

The Medical Support Team is only a small part of the extremely valuable response that Cheshire Lowland Search and Rescue Team volunteers can provide to the statutory emergency services and most importantly the people of Cheshire and surrounding districts …
