Tonight Team Members from Cheshire Lowland Search & Rescue Team visited Grappenhall Scouts to provide a presentation and also a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning through fun. The night began with Dave McClure, CLSART Medical Team Lead, introducing the Team and a brief history. The night continued with a Water Safety demonstration by Jo McClure, Chair, and Jo Pritchard, Dog Team Lead. Scouts had fun throwing throw lines at targets and how to wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) safely and correctly. Ray Milne, Communications and Equipment Officer, demonstrated how to use a Basket Stretcher which then left Dave demonstrating Casualty Care Bags and Medical Equipment which the Team uses. Towards the end of the night all the Scouts (and the Leaders!) took part in a mini-search exercise. Scouts were asked to set up a Control Point and also to act as Search Managers, whilst other Scouts were out searching for 5 people;
“There has been a phone call to Cheshire Police at 4pm today after a group of 5 friends didn’t return home after school. Parents are extremely worried and it’s now dark with still no sign of the group. The school was informed earlier and teachers were asked to search playgrounds and playing fields, which they have completed but still they remain missing. Cheshire Police have asked if you could help them search around the immediate area for any of the group of friends and also for any clue’s you may find along the way. Their names are:
Remember a clue is - “ANYTHING & EVERYTHING”.
The twist came when James and Lucy Smart were actually Smarties Easter egg’s, Bob and Holly Button were chocolate Button’s Easter egg’s, which then left Samantha White – no guessing what type of Easter egg she was?! We’d like to thank all the Scout Leaders, Parents and/or Guardians and last but not least – all the Scouts at Grappenhall for what was a lovely, enjoyable evening. May we also send our best wishes to all the Scouts on the First Aid Course on the 8th and 9th March – Good Luck!
