North West Ambulance Service Support - 5 Jan
At 0830 the team was contacted to provide immediate support to our colleague, Bolton Mountain Rescue who were providing emergency support to the North West Ambulance service (Greater Manchester) who had declared a major incident due to the extreme and poor weather conditions.
Two team members were responding to the incident when the team was contacted by North West Ambulance Service (Cheshire & Mersey) to provide direct support to them utilising one our team members Land Rover Defender.
At 1000 our team contacted NWAS Emergency control (Cheshire & Mersey) and were immediately deployed on standby to the Warrington area, which was badly affected by the prevailing weather conditions. The sheer amount of snow and sheet ice made the road conditions extremely treacherous and NWAS Rapid response vehicles were rendered unsafe to operate.
Utilising a variety of medical equipment that is at disposal, our two team members provided direct emergency medical cover (rapid response) in the mountain rescue specification vehicle and responded to a total of eight emergency calls. These calls included public place in and around Warrington as well as many home addresses. We arrived first on scene to 7 out of the 8 jobs attended.
In total we responded to eight emergency calls throughout the day:
- 11:02hrs our vehicle was despatched for a red response to a residential address Glazebrook, Warrington to reports of a patient having a fit.
- 12:40hrs was despatched for a red response to a public place on the A49, Warrington for a person collapse query cause, to provide immediate assistance to the Police and two First Responders who were already on scene.
- 13:16hrs we were despatched on an amber response to a residential address in Latchford, Warrington for person collapsed
- 13:50hrs we were despatched for a amber response to a residential address in Grappenhall, Warrington for a patient who had fallen, however was stood down on route.
- 14:30hrs we were despatched to a Red Response for a Road Traffic Collision at Junction 8 of the M62, however was stood down on route as no injuries were reported.
- 14:58 we were despatched for a Amber response to a residential address in Buttonwood, Warrington for a patient who had fallen. We remained on scene throughout to ensure that the ambulance could leave scene without becoming stuck in the deep snow.
- 16:01 we were despatched for a red response to a residential home in Orford, Warrington for a patient who was ‘unwell’.
- 17:11 we were despatched on an amber response to a home address in Burtonwood, Warrington for patient who had fallen.
