Links Forged with Staffordshire Search & Rescue Team - 27 March

This afternoon Joanne and Dave McClure, Chris Palin and Jim Oliver travelled to Shugborough Outdoor Education Centre in Staffordshire to assist Staffordshire SAR Team on their Search Technician Course.

A search technician course is an initial course which includes all aspects of search in a theory and practical setting.  This course is required by the Association of Lowland Search And Rescue prior to the member going on a 'live' search.

Joanne taught 'Missing Person Behaviour' to the students using table top exercises and a power point presentation.  Jim, Jo and Chris assessed the students during the evening in which a search scenario was set-up around the Channock Chase area.

All three assessors were very impressed with the initial set-up of the control area and the professionalism of all concerned.   The evening certainly left no doubt in our minds that these Trainee's were more than capable.

After the search exercise Joanne and Dave made their farewells and returned home leaving Jim and Chris to sample the local beer and to enjoy the facilities provided, even if it was in the early hours prior to them going to bed!

Our thanks are extended to colleagues and friends for their kind hospitality and for allowing us the privilage of teaching and assessing on a very successful course.  Many thanks and congratulations to all the trainee's who qualified.
