A wet day for ALSAR teams in Staffordshire and Kent - 21 April
Searching the banks of a watercourse is something that we are often called
to do and it is imperative that we train for this. Many people die in
water each year and as little as six inches of swift moving water is enough
to sweep you off your feet.
To search a riverbank properly we must search close to the edge, on the
banks and sometimes into the water. The courses that we attended today
provided skills and understanding of water features, equipment, whistle
and hand signals, safe approach, water rescue, river crossings and search
techniques.
Malc, Rachel, Mark and Gavin went on a Bank Search Course in Staffordshire
and would all like to thank their trainer Bob for an enjoyable and informative
day. Our thanks to SSART deputy team leader Paul Keen for organizing this.
Dave and Simon went to Kent to attend a Bank Search Instructor Course
run by the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue along with numerous
other ALSAR teams’ representatives. ALSAR training officer Paul Lewis
(MBE) ran the course assisted by Paul from Norfolk SAR and Stephen from
Midshires SAR and we would like to thank them all.
